That seems to be a special disease among some players nowadays, as I do not think it can be said to improve the musical results. I wonder if it has something to do with the environment degradation?!oldbandnerd wrote:...but I got motion sickness from the guy on the left bobbing an weaving so much...

We have a VERY good clarinet player in our local symphony who is at least TWICE that active. It's been said that the space of a chair has to be left open on either side of her. I honestly don't know how she manages to keep her mouth on the horn!Lingon wrote:That seems to be a special disease among some players nowadays, as I do not think it can be said to improve the musical results. Do you think Karl King would be proud?

Question is if she is that good thanks to the moving around or practising, to play when moving? And if she would sound worse if she do not take up that space?!TubaTinker wrote: ...We have a VERY good clarinet player in our local symphony who is at least TWICE that active. Isn't excessive moving just a matter of forcing ones rhythm/phrasing upon ones fellow musicians?

Hmm, then the moving person might move with a timing corresponding to the music, but that is not always the case...imperialbari wrote:Isn't excessive moving just a matter of forcing ones rhythm/phrasing upon ones fellow musicians?

I heard that once when Anders Rachlew teached a piano student he suddenly opened the window, it was very cold in the winter. The student stopped playing and asked why he opened the window. Oh, it is just to give you some more space, Rachlew said. That student learned the lesson and stopped moving when playing...
