Re: What's in your tuba bag?
1) a tuba (and mouthpiece)
-------------
2) small hand towel for emptying the horn (depending on the venue)
3) a piece of plexiglass (I prefer this to clothespins)
4) a little platform fashioned out of a 2x4, a thick sock, and some shelving paper that sits on the chair and puts the horn at the right height for 99% of chairs
5) depending on the gig, a magazine
[should add that Cronkhite includes a nifty flat pocket that attaches to his tuba cases for #s 2,3, and 5, and includes another pocket on the other side for #4]

Toothbrush/toothpaste. I can't stand playing after eating or drinking.

A copy of Arban's, painstakingly translated into French.

Is that the hemorrhoid cream that does wonders for under-eye bags?

Re: What's in your tuba bag?
Two weeks ago I left the zipper open on my gig bag for the 185 and then went upstairs to get and put my glasses in there -zipped it up. Got to rehearsal - unzipped it - started talking to someone - reached in blindly and pulled out a big slimy dog bone. Bobo (the dog) apparently stuffed it in there as a good place to hide it. Yuck!

Re: What's in your tuba bag?
A dinged tuba bell.
Humes and Berg gig bags have a velcro pouch in the under side of the lid that zips to cover the bell. If you forget and let the lid slam shut, the mouthpiece that you have placed in the pouch will ding your bell.
Also, an overweight cat that likes to take naps.

No music
Washington Post Crossword (only reason to buy the paper, plus it is an easy puzzle)
Mouthpiece I stole from my high school. Some silver left on the rim.

Pencils/highlighters
Paper towels
A hand towel
Toothpaste
Valve oil
Slide grease
A tuner
A metronome
A screwdriver (grinded the edges down so it would fit all the screws on my horn)
A multitool and a pocket knife
And occasionally a sandwich.

Most of the stuff previously listed, plus a stand light and extra batteries. Never know when lighting will be insufficient.

Re: What's in your tuba bag?
Nah - you're just lusting after the leather Cronkite RB bag it resides in - which itself is old - but kept luxurious due to owner's willingness to spend 10 minutes once in a great while with leather polish and elbow grease. Said 185 at 45 years old - plays great but looks like it was ridden hard and put away wet. Unfortunately owner can't make same claim. He only looks like he was ridden hard and put away wet. Makes no claim to plays great.bloke wrote:a transparent excuse to brag on being a 185 ownertofu wrote:Two weeks ago I left the zipper open on my gig bag for the 185 and then went upstairs to get and put my glasses in there -zipped it up. Re: What's in your tuba bag?
* Valve oil
* Four or so mouthpieces (even though I know which one works with this horn)
* Screwdriver
* Nail clipper
* Duplicates of the guitar and banjo picks, capos and harmonicas that inhabit my guitar and banjo cases (because you never know who will show up with what)
* Olympus PEN Four Thirds camera and a couple of lenses
* Model release forms (because you never know who will show up with what)
To paraphrase the immortal HoJo: "Don't try that with your trumpet case."
