I have found that the longer I play the tuba the lower my singing voice also gets. Choir directors have told me I am a pretty strong bass, but I have had no real voice training.

That kind of bass voice is as much timbre as range. I usually have a solid D, but it's not heavy and full (unlike the rest of me) so it really doesn't have that effect. If you listen to a lot of the doowop acts, those basses were rarely true, sometimes even low tenors making their voice sound heavier. But yeah....

I'd KILL to have anything close to that, much less a profundo type voice. Of course, I want a contrabassoon, and a contrabass sax too.

I can sing a low Bb below the bass clef and most of the Rochut book 1 down one octave. When our orchestra tunes, with some effort, I can sing a low A. If I have had a martini the night before, sometimes I can sing a low G.

Gee... has everyone forgotten Larry Hooper?? with such great songs as...Oh Happy Day...This old house...Daddy with the Lennon Sisters....and my favorite..Grandfather's Clock...He also did Candy...Gonna get along without you...Davy Crocket...Mr. Bass Man...Some even number one hits ...Good ole Lawrence Welk...just love the old shows in black and white sooo much music in an hour.....As far as that other guy that I never heard of boring!!! I think it's the skirt he's wearing or maybe celebitsy...That would make anyone feel low even singing<s>.....................BB

That guy is a genuine talent and extremely rare in the western world. We've never had a true tradition of training a bass voice.

Sadly, the era of the true Russian Basso Profundo and much of the knowledge that went along with it has begun to pass.

Is anyone here old enough to remember Ivan Rebroff? Ivan pulled down $5000. per WEEK in Paris in the 1950's, singing opera, recitals, clubs, you name it. His schtick was his extraordinary range, from Basso profundo [seemingly his "natural" range] to good soprano-esque falsetto. He was really good on the recordings I have heard, very much an entertainer. He even had some international hits, he was that big a star of the era.
