What Key Instrument(s) Do You Play Most Often?

Post by Z-Tuba Dude »

...just curious!

You can vote up to 4 times, so if you use (for instance) a lot of BBb, less Eb, and a tiny bit of F, you can do: "BBb, Eb & F" plus "BBb" plus "BBb & Eb"

Please expound, as necessary...

Where's the button for Piano (or other keyboard instrument)?

I'm hitting the button for "I only own 1 tuba and it's a BBb" so that's what I play.

I only play F anymore and haven't touched my Eb's or Eb valved bass in months. I voted BBb and F, even though the Bb playing is a little euph and tenor/bass trombone.

Interesting! What F do you have now?

My 983 is the only tuba I own so when I'm playing tuba it's almost always Eb. That said, I haven't pulled my tuba out for quite awhile as I've been doing mostly euphonium playing this past academic year as I finished up my masters degree. The couple times I did pull out a tuba, I used one of the school's BBb's as it was easier to get to one of those at those moments.

CC & Eb for me, though I find it ironic that the Eb in this case is mostly Eb cimbasso. I almost play 50/50 these days evenly split between CC and cimbasso. There's a small percentage (maybe 10-20%) of my Eb playing that is done on an Eb tuba.
My opinion for what it's worth...

None! , but otherwise an Army Miraphone 1281. I've only used it in concert band so far but have some quintet and a lot of Dixieland coming up in July. I'm planning on selling all my personal stuff and getting a front valve euph; I really don't play much anymore. That would reasonably cover any civie playing I would care to do, would free up space, and get a few misspent bucks back in my pocket.

My main axe is my Miraphone 188 CC. I play BBb for marching related endeavors. As such, I clicked both the 'CC' and 'BBb' buttons.

I play mainly F and sometimes CC if a contra bass is needed. Where I live in Germany CC is not common at all so in our county with 150,000 inhabitants, 17 wind bands with about 500 musicians, about 60 tubists I am the only one honking on a CC. The F is a little bit more common here, so there is at least another one in our county. :) The rest ist BBb.
Regards,

Uwe

After 20 years of 95% F playing, I now have a BBb (Martin) for jazz and orchestra/band and an Eb (Conn) that I'll be using for a few solo things from time to time. I also have a BBb helicon which really, really plays well (Amati). I sometimes think that if I'd had the helicon BEFORE the Martin, the Martin would not be mine. I shudder at that thought, but I'm thrilled to have both.

I voted CC and Eb. The bulk of my playing currently is in brass band. On the Bb part I use my CC horn (don't have access to a BBb). I've been doing more Eb playing lately though, and that's a good thing. I've always preferred the Eb part.

Great thread. I am guessing that if it could somehow reach all, or nearly all, tuba players, BBb would dominate even more. For me, my good old CC Piggy will always be "home."

At the moment, it is about 40% BBb, 15% string bass, 30% CC and 15% electric bass.

Sounds like my life right now summer time=summer stock theater gigs, so gig wise it would be 50% Bass(electric or up right) 40%CC 10%F. But I would say as a senior in college it is 65%CC 35%F, the only reason why it is that much F is because I have a recital coming up it would probably be 85% CC 15% F any other time.
