July 4th in Salem

Post by OldHorn »

The tradition of the very first July 4th celebration was continued in Salem (Winston-Salem), NC today. Salem held the very first one in the United States in 1783, and has every year since, save for 11 years after the end of the Civil War. Among many events was a Moravian band that included these 4 very cool horns: Tom Abbott, Eb bass OTS anonymous; Benjamin Horner, King Double Bell; Paul Horner, Moses Slater Eb saxhorn; & Brown Clodfelter, Mahallion Eb helicon.

Do you or any of your friends know of a small band, Moravian, or town civic, or even a german band looking for a Tuba Player. Just moved to Concord NC and looking to play with a small group this summer.

I know it's a little bit of a drive from where you are, but I know there is a community band in Albemarle. PM if you would like the directors contact info.
