There is a B&M 4-valve CC tuba that is (was) for sale here for just a bit more than $3k. Don't be afraid of "only" 4 valves, it will be plenty of horn for you.
Otherwise something like a MW-32 or a MW-37 would work.
All of these are good tubas that are unpopular and usually have low prices, and can be sold later for about what you paid for it.
I saw buy now. Compared to the tens of thousands of dollars you will spend on your degree, $3k is almost nothing.
School horns are fine (I used one), but the second you graduate, you are unemployed and without a tuba. That doesn't sound very fun!
Sometimes it pays to get used to buying things used. Shiny stuff is cool but, when there are limits on the finances, you can get more for less by buying used.
Sorry I have not been on for a while everyone. Thankyou for the insight everyone and the different viewpoint. A special thanks to those who posted links helping to look for tubas.
I realize now that i was hesitant for "only a 4 valve" and i should get that out of my head. Thankyou for helping me realize that.
Concerning the degrees and such even though it is off topic. Personally i would perfer performing a piece on multiple instruments rather than a full recital on tuba. Yes I LOVE tuba. But I find myself a little like hyperactive child when it comes to practicing. I really enjoy multiple instruments and find that i learn them rather quickly. (I am starting to play organ for my local Church going on about 6 months of playtime.) Granted that isnt spectacular, but i find that different instruments allow me to express myself in differrent ways.
Thankyou all again for the info that you have provided -especially in my absence. It is good to know that there are other tuba players out there to speak with
