One time, in an empty stadium, I farted so loud, the whole stadium reverberated with flatulance. It resulted in the great San Fransisco earthquake. In hindsight, I shouldn't have eaten those day-old burritos.

This is simple acoustic physics.
All of the NCAA D1 football stadiums that I've been in will echo even without playing loud as long as it's somewhat empty. Just for reference, I've been to all of the old ACC stadiums except UVA (before we added BC, VT and Miami). I've also played pep band in 4 bowl games so my stadium list is 13, including Ohio State's Horseshoe.

It's also true in the large basketball stadiums NCSU and UNC play in. Duke's Cameron is small enough that it's more like the reverb found playing in a large church than the echo from a large stadium.

Come to think of it, Duke's football stadium actually has one of the best echos because it has that open ended concrete horseshoe design. If you're in the crook of the horseshoe, point your sousa bell toward the open end of the stadium and enjoy the echo off of the trees on the other side of the practice field (~300 yds away). The parabolic shape of the concrete amplifies the sound on the way out and the way back.

a more impressive feat, and more difficult too, would be playing softly enough to not hear any echo.

Once, I played so loudly and with good tone, that the entire stadium collapsed. Unfortunately, I was killed.
