Stravinsky- Symphonies of Wind Instruments.

Post by TubaDave15 »

What is the ideal way to go about putting the mute in towards the end of the piece? The youth orchestra that I'm in is performing this piece in November, and I want to get that issue out of the way so I can focus on the meter shifts.

Thanks,
Dave

I just half-cocked it during the last multi-measure rest before the muted section and held it with my left hand until needed. This might be easier with some mute/tuba combinations than others.

My wind ensemble played that a few months ago. I just sat there for the entire piece and "operated" the mute at the right time for the other tuba player. I didn't play a single note. The hard part was staying completely still and not looking bad... If you have a friend willing to do what I did it will work.
