I am going to be flying oversees in about 2 months with my 822. This summer I simply bought two tickets and used a gig bag. This time I would like to save a little money and check my horn in the hard case at the gate. However the case is moderately damaged(some smaller cracks, a missing chunk about 2 inches in diameter, and damaged latches).
Any tips on where to go/how to get the damage repaired on the case?

Consider your hard case in the same way you would a motorcycle helmet, or bicycle helmet. If it has had that many "hits", maybe it is time to replace it, either with a new Yamaha case or a new MTS hard case, which would probably offer more protection.

When I bought my YFB-822 used about 10 years ago, the hard case had already been repaired nicely by Dennis Houghton (Houghton Horns in Keller, Texas). After 10 years of frequent air travel, it needed to be repaired again. I took it back to Mr. Houghton and, in my opinion, he did a terrific job. Both times there were significant chunks of plastic missing, cracks, and latches that needed to be replaced.
Before getting this last repair, I called the Brasswind to ask about the price of a new Yamaha case. (I really like the case because it's not bulky or heavy and fits the horn perfectly.) They quoted me a price of $1,200!! Does anyone happen to know where to get a cheaper, new Yamaha case for the 822?
