I don't see you offering a better one.

Okay, well, how about this. If all 10,000 of us went out and borrowed $20,000 a piece at 14% interest... I'm not so good at math, but that's got to be good for the economy, right?

Or as a slightly serious option, we could have a grand TubeNet raffle or 50/50 draw, where the prize is a new tuba, and tickets cost $20, with a portion of the proceeds going to maintenance of the website, or to a charity.
I bet most of us would buy in for a shot at a new horn :)

Since some of our members have the goal to sound like a kazoo why not just get a tuba kazoo - 2 bucks ought to do it.

I think this idea needs a trial run. I volunteer to be the test subject, if you all send me $2.00 I'll go out and buy my new tuba and report back to the group about how it went!!!

Seriously the idea of a Raffle for a new tuba to raise funds for the board sounds like a great idea, I'd buy in!!

Be careful what you say. The wife of a banjo player I know was just recently sentenced to 6 years in the pen for participating in a Ponzi scheme. (She isn't a banker.)
