Re: a BETTER high-pitch to low-pitch euphonium conversion
I have three of the DEG baby contras with one piston and one rotor. Would parts from these work?

There are very few of the DEG 2V euphs lying around. Being Willies, they are pretty good horns and still quite useful in alumni corps. There also were a few 3V versions made in the early 90s.
The "baby" contras were made at Getzen before Don left to start DEG. They have a Getzen nameplate soldered on the bell. They are horrendous instruments, cobbled together from a variable and inconsistent assortment of non-tuba parts.
The bow is a lot larger than a euph bow. I don't know the source, but parts this size were never made in Elkhorn.
One of my future Frankenhorn projects will be a cross between a python tuba and a cimbasso. Probably in F. It will use the Getzen bell & branches, a .570 cluster from an Allied-built 3 valve G baritone, and a new Kanstul euph bugle leadpipe.

Sounds interesting. Please post pictures whenever you get around to building it.aqualung wrote:One of my future Frankenhorn projects will be a cross between a python tuba and a cimbasso. That's a great idea Bloke!
Is there any chance that Willson still makes the bottom bow and if so would it be cost effective to order a new one?
