Just saw this-FYI-mark

The U.S. Army Band is proud to present our annual Tuba-Euphonium Workshop. The Workshop features concerts, recitals, exhibits, master classes and lectures by leading low brass authorities from around the world.
The 2014 Workshop will open on Wednesday, January 29 and close Saturday, February 1. Events on all four days are free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations are required for the events. There is no registration fee and any tuba or euphonium player is invited to bring his/her horn for reading sessions. Military musicians are invited to perform with the Armed Forces Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble.
The Workshop will take place at Brucker Hall on historic Fort Myer, Virginia. Fort Myer is located across the Potomac River from Washington, DC, and is accessible by Interstates 395 and 66 and by U.S. Route 50.
Questions? Please contact SGM Don Palmire, Tuba-Euphonium Workshop Coordinator.

Assuming the bozos occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW and Capitol Hill do something to end the shutdown by then.

If the Gov't Shutdown is not over by then, maybe we could just move the Conference to the Irish Pub, or some other nearby locale . . . . And yes, Bloke, snow and ice can be a little inconvenient, but it's not like they are holding the event outside ;^)

I'm pretty likely to show up, in full non-trolling persona. :) I'm sure it's posted every year, but I used to live down that way and haven't been since -- hotel, etc. recommendations are always nice to read about, even if I end up staying in deep Maryland for the cheap sleeping space.

"Due to sequestration-related cutbacks to TDY funds for military participants, we will not be hosting the Armed Forces Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble (AFTEE) this year. We hope to be able to support AFTEE in the future."

So last year's AFTEE may have been my last.

I thought only the Cdn military had no money for bands.

I had to take annual leave and pay my own way last year but it was worth it just to hear Alan Bear and Tom McCaslin. I had the most useful "lessons" in 30 years.

Unfortunately, I see no masterclass on the program. Should I go?

Maybe I'll spend my money on the Eastern Trombone Workshop this year.

Does anyone have a list of dealers and manufacturers that will be at the conference? I can't seem to find one of the website.

Any instruments you would particularly like Wessex Tubas to bring to try, please PM, or email me. We will not have room for everything, but will bring those of most interest. On my current shortlist are;

BBb travel tuba 'Mighty Midget'
F cimbasso
F tuba (6-valve) 'Brahms'
F tuba (B&S inspired)
Eb Solo tuba (16.75" bell)
Dolce euphonium
BBb 5-valve Luzern
Sample of new Wessex tuba gig bags (all sizes from Midget to 6/4)

I look forward to meeting some more TubeNeters!
