Hi Steve - that's exactly the reason I like the 345 too!Steve Marcus wrote:Having played two different Holton 345s this week, I agree that there is a certain visual appeal to the horns - in particular, the bottom bow's diameter is as wide as the final bow (pre-throat) of other 6/4 tubas. This is one of the elements that make it so inviting to pick up, hold, and play one of these heavy teddy bears!

We had four of these Schreiber tear drop horns at the Disneyland Tuba Christmas today. An alto, 2 baritone and an Eb tuba. Very cool looking.jonesmj wrote:Hi-

The "Book Cover" is James Jenkins' York BBb with an enlarged Conn valve section. It is utterly gorgeous in looks and sound (much of it the player of course : )

The 6/4 BBb Rudy in particular is a magnificent looking beast, regardless of Bloke's remark that playing one of those is like climbing a treetrunk.Adam Peck wrote:I'm partial to the lines of the Rudys.
I second the salute to James Jenkins' York tuba.

It looks like the valve linkage has been partially disassembled, so that the springs push the paddles in the odd position you see.UrbaneScorpion wrote:Why are the paddles placed so oddly?Steve Marcus wrote:

As I understand it, the horn was still under construction at the time of the photo.UrbaneScorpion wrote:Why are the paddles placed so oddly?Steve Marcus wrote:

That's the one.Curmudgeon wrote:Not sure if that's the one, but I've seen a Nirschl 6/4 rotary tuba that absolutely dwarfs the Nirschl York. To me it looked roughly twice the size.

I have to vote for my B&S JBL Classic. The rose brass, combined with the shape, is perfect in my eyes. Sounds purty too.

Mark, you're just shilling to get someone to buy the copper Marzan, right? You know that's going to end up on eBay again, and it's all your fault?
(it's a joke...Mark has been accused of overly promoting other tubas in the past)
