Information & Pics on Luca (Luke) Del Negro requested!
HI-
I received this email requesting information:
Greetings,
I found your link through a Google search looking for pictures of my great
grandfather - Luca Del Negro - with either a tuba or Sousaphone. I couldn't
find working links to the photos in your post, but if you still have them, I
would very much appreciate seeing them. My family has lost a lot of our old
records, and we are trying to recompile as much as we can.
Many thanks,
Lori

If you have any pics of Sousa tubist Luke DelNegro, please email me at: jonestuba@juno.com" target="_blank and I will send you Lori Del Negro's email and contact information. Thanks to all!!

That's the Holton DelNegro model which Walter Sear used. Eli Newberger has it now.
Luke appears to have a very short upper arm, which explains why he positioned the pistons the way he did. Thanks for sharing that wonderful photo.

Eli had another one which he bought from Walter back in the sixties and used for many years. He had it overhauled a couple of times, but eventually donated it to the Yale Instrument collection. He also had one cut from BBb by another repair tech, and used it for a few years. But his brother tells me that he now has Walter's personal horn, which he wanted all along. Perhaps Eli will clarify the story here eventually.

Dear friends,
Merry Christmas! Here's a link to a performance by my "All-Stars," on a December 3 gig in which you can see, and if you put on headphones, hear, my DelNegro.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aco3FQlOMVE" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank
This marvelous instrument, which I fell in love with at 14, was played by my friend, Walter Sear, who ran a 2nd floor musical instrument business across 48th St. from William Bell's walk-up studio. After Walter's untimely death, one of his daughters called to tell me of her dad's instructions, and we made the appropriate arrangements.
Then, over a year"s time, Tom Treece, ably supported by his Orlando Symphony buddy, Bob Carpenter, and Zig Kanstul, who did the valve work, restored the tuba to near-mint condition. I picked it up early this year. Along the way, they discovered that the Del Negro series tubas were actually made for the Holton company by York, using the same alloy as in the Chicago Symphony/Arnold Jacobs instruments. I'm profoundly grateful to Tom, Bob, and Mike Roylance, whom referred me to them.
This tuba is as I remembered it as a child, immediately resonanting, sweet, with a gorgeous low register and a remarkably warm consistency across the range.
Warm wishes,
Eli

It looks very similar to the York 700 series.
Anyone know the bore size?

To see a detailed picture of the horn, taken by Bob Carpenter when I picked it up at Tom Treece's, just look at my Facebook page, where it's my official photo,
