Who's on tour with Pittsburgh?

Post by king2ba »

I was able to hear the Pittsburgh symphony last night in South Florida. They sounded great, but I didn't recognize the tuba player. They played the Prok. Romeo and Juliet but there was no tuba player listed in the program or on the orchestra's website. Anyone know who is doing the tour?

I had been wondering that too. I saw them in Pittsburgh last month playing Pictures at an Exhibition and Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B and thought the tuba parts were nice. The symphony, as usual, was spellbinding. [/code]

I haven't heard of Mr. Knox, but I am admittingly ignorant of many of the professional tubists out there today. I'm lucky to know the names of the tuba players in my community wind ensemble!

I was in the top row balcony and could hear the tuba very well. More importantly, Mr. Knox blended very well with the section and wasn't hanging out all by himself.

And I'm still enjoying listening to Peter Sullivan's euph part in Bydlo in my head. Very nice indeed.

I first became aware of Mr. Knox when I bought the Center City Brass Quintet CD entitled, appropriately enough, "Center City Brass Quintet". It's on the Chandos label.

Mr. Knox has a great sound, and the group blend is extraordinary. It's my favorite quintet CD now. I urge folks to check it out.

Actually, they just had about a week of concerts in Florida. Their last performance was today. Sorry you missed them! They are phenomenal. For me, it's one of the best things about living in Pittsburgh.

I just got that CD to listen to the Ewald quintet, which I'm working on. It's a fantastic CD, the group is really great.
