New- Would appreciate Guidance

I am trying out for GDYO http://gdyo.org/" target="_blank and I would appreciate some guidance, especially of professional tubists. I can give information for those willing to stay in contact.

What sort of "guidance" are you looking for? These things are invariably a good thing if you make it, and another place to soak it all in and learn from others.

Basically playing guidance and questions-

Does the average joe trying out ace the excerpts?
How rare is it for a 7th grader to make it in?
Anyone want to hear me play and give criticism? The only recording thing I have is an iPhone.

I am taking lessons but they are once a week

I am in 7th grade and I'm working on my range, especially my high range. I can bust out a 3 octave Bb scale and plan to hit an E by the time of my auditions.

Also I need to work on my volume.

You're taking lessons so ask your teacher or your band teacher.

Kiltie is right. Always trust your private teacher. He or she knows you and your playing better than anyone on Tubnet. Your teacher can hear you in-person and see what you are doing where others cannot.

I heartily recommend you give it a go. You are a young player, so, don't be discouraged if you do not make it this time. You have many years ahead of you. Think of an audition as a snapshot of where you are at this time in your development as a player. At your age, with lessons and proper practice, you will only improve. Get the comments of the audition committee if they are offered. It will give you something to work on in the future.
