TubeNet server failure

Post by WoodSheddin »

The server hosting TubeNet suffered an operating system failure and I was required to upgrade the hosting and perform a total restore.

I am still working through the bugs and things are going to be in a shaky state for a couple of days.

I especially ask TubeNet Sponsors to please remain patient. The component which puts up the TubeNet Sponsors banners is still broken. I am working the problem.

I would also like to add my thanks for the many thousands of hours Sean Chisham has spent maintaining this site for well over a decade and thanks this time for doing the restore. I for one very much missed Tubenet while it was down...

Almost 2 decades, but who's counting?

Big thumbs up to Schlep actually. He is the moderator keeping this ship mostly afloat these days. I just sit on the sidelines until the TubeNet fire alarm went off yesterday morning and the whole thing burned to the ground.

Thank you, Sean. Something's missing from the day when there is no TubeNet.

Just think. With no TubeNet:

No Tuba Men, sitting at the bar, drinking fine Bavarian beer and eating bratwurst.

No second rate trumpet doofuses, sitting at tables, drinking warm PBR and eating burned hotdogs,

No high school kids and prospective first year college students, standing on the sidewalk, pounding on the door wanting in, too young for beer, only getting a bag of stale popcorn from the trumpet doofuses.

No TNFJ. How could any low brass decision be made without their conflicting opinions?

No Schlep, monitoring the fights and occasionally making someone in the TFNJ sit in the corner if they won't act nice.

A whole lot of "no".

Thank you, Sean, for the time, effort and money you have put out for TubeNet.

I "think" I got the final bugs worked out on the TubeNet Sponsors. I added one extra week onto all currently active sponsors to try to make up for the 2.5 day outage.

The main forum seems to be working.

My family's email seems back up.

If you guys run into anything else still broken that seemed to work before let me know.

Next item on the agenda is to work out a more robust backup. Backups worked ok this time, but there are better ways.
