PT 22 pictures and opinions

Post by LukesBulldogface »

Hello tubenet friends,

I was looking through old forum posts to find a clear image of the PT-22.
And the pictures I found weren't very clear. Would someone be willing to post clear pictures of that horn?

Also any thoughts on that horn too. I'm just now getting back into playing on a PT-4 again and eventually want to pick up a bass tuba.I found a post that I put up in 2006 about the PT-22 and people seemed to like that horn back then. Is that still the opinion of the PT-22?

Thanks again.

I have one and love it. THe sound and pitch of this horn are great! I have been going back and forth between a PT-65 mouthpiece and a wick 3SL, and I just found a Wick Heritage 3L on clearance at TMEA (Music and Arts) that I have yet to try. Bloke was very kind and took some measurments for me too at his booth, so I hope to try one of his mouthpieces on it in the near future.
I will take some pictures later and post them. Of all the e flat tubas I tried at TMEA (this year and years past) this has been my favorite.

I'll see if I can post some pictures of my PT-22 in the next few days. I just got the horn a few months ago, but I am loving it. There are a few wonky notes (mainly the 5th partial series, and the Bnat in the staff). Those are easily corrected with alternate fingerings, though, and the horn plays great. It definitely has a large, Eb tuba sound, and I'm really enjoying the horn. I play stuff on all three of my horns (CC, Eb, and F), but I've noticed myself moving away from the F a little bit and preferring my Eb horn more for small horn repertoire.

And it's not completely representative of the sound of the instrument, but here's a recording I made recently with my PT-22p (for the curious, the piece is Giacinto Scelsi's Maknongan).

Hope this helps,

Aaron H.

I didn't mean to infer anyone had a Pt-22p at TMEA this year. I have one and just know how it plays compared to the other e flat tubas I tried at TMEA this year. There was one at TMEA last year, but alas Custom Music was not present this year.

I almost forgot my pictures, here they are...

What hard case do you use with your B&S PT-22?

Thank you for posting the pictures!

One last question, is this tuba still in production?
I emailed Custom Music about about the PT22 but I haven't received a reply yet.

Thanks again

I don't have a hard case for it. I had a Leather Cronkhite Bag made for it. He used a template for a Willson F Tuba that was pretty close in size.
It fits very well.
Not many of these tubas were/are made which is also why a template for the bag wasn't made exactly for the B&S Pt-22p.

I don't know if this tuba is currently still in production.

Ah, you're right. A little searching also pulled up this post with some other PT-22 information:
