After taking some time with this new horn this weekend I have worked some of the bugs out.
* --- The issue I was having with 3 of the five slides being difficult to replace once removed was mostly taken care of by cleaning off the factory lube and putting on my on. The slide for the fourth valve is still a little difficult. It mismatched by 2 mm and has to be stressed a little to get back on . I do this very carfully too. Not too much pressure. I can live with this .
* --- The so called "rattleing" noise I was getting when I payed certain notes . I went throught every brace, connection, valve and checked the fit of the mouthpiece and here is what I discovered. The spring in the 4th valve was not seated correctly after I had pulled the valves to look at them origianlly. I carefully put the fourth valve back together and got the spring seated right. But..... there was still a noise. Not as bad but still there . It was not a ratteling but more like the metal viberates and " RINGS " . Does anybody know what this could be ? Nothing I do seems to get rid of this. Not acceptable. I would like to fix this problem.
*--- The finish...... It has little scratches on it . They are there and do not buff out. I did put a polising cloth on it that is made for silver insrtuments and it buffed to a really nice shine .
I can live with it .
The wife was generous to me and allowed me lots of time this weekend to play and practice and really get to know this horn.
I am really inclined to agree with blokes comments about the sound and playability verses any cosmetic or mechanical defects. I do like this horn . The intonation seems to be really good and sounds better then almost all the other horns I have played ( not the Hirschbrunner or the Willson that I got to try out for 5 minutes each ).
I think once I get a good mouthpiece that this horn will be all I will ever need. If I can just solve the ringing bell issue.
Some Weril euphonium issues resolved

I'm a little unclear -- are you saying the bell rings, or the valve spring still rings? You can find out if it's the bell. Grab hold of the bell rim and play; if it still rings I'd have to say it's probably not the bell.
You can also check to find out if it's that valve spring. Remove the valve spring (for a moment) and reassemble the valve, holding the fourth valve in the up position. If the ringing doesn't go away, it's not the spring. If it DOES go away, there are all sorts of things you can do -- the best being, probably, to just replace the spring. There are some rubber-coated ones available, and someone has some that are hexagonal or octagonal instead of round that are supposed to eliminate ringing.
Glad to hear that the horn is working out so well for you otherwise. I really like these, and plan to buy one myself once I get my kids through college (six years, two months and about a week, and counting...).

It seems to me that it is the METAL of the bell that is ringing .I am almost certain the springs are no longer an issue.
I understand the college thing . I got mine before the kids were in college because I knew if I waited until after it would be a minimum of 14 years . The youngest is only 6. I really had to sell this purchase to the wife . But, as I have rececntly had good boost to my salary that will only continue to go up ( commisioned salesman ) and we are more debtfree now then we have ever been I convinced her that now was the time. She bought it !!! . Damn I am good !!! . I paid cash for this and own it out right . The only way to go.
Thanks for your thoughts.

I had a susaphone in school diuring marching band that rattled, we figured out it was the rim on th bell was vibtrating against the bell. We just pushed some little pieces of paper towel in there and it hasn't done it since, even after the papaer towel fell out. You might try putting some presure with your hand on the edge of the bell while playing. you also might try having someone listen to you from a distance to find out if it is coming out or if you are the only one that can hear it, that was the case with my sousaphone the rattle could only be heard from behind the horn and mostly by the one playing it.

Weril Tubas
Anyone have any comments on Weril tubas? Similar characteristics to their euphoniums?

Inquiring minds want to know. I have recommended so many Weril euphoniums that people are calling and asking about the tubas. I have never played one so I cannot say.

I played one of the little Weril tubas at Midsouth a couple years ago, and REALLY liked it. It is a small tuba, though, very like a Yamaha 621. Bloke has told me that the larger ones, which are a 321 knockoff, are also very good.

I went to concert band practice last night . If the "ringing" was there I could not hear it . I still have not tracked it down.
As far as the sound and playabilty of the horn they are both excellent . I put the tuner on this horn over the weekend and the intotnation seems to be really good. It certanitly superior to anything else I have played . I find it really easy to play . The sound is terrific !!!

Weril euph bell ring
Try getting some aquarium tubing the length of the circumference of your bell, slit it and put it on your bell bead. I have done this on a coulpe of tubas and it stopped the ring.
it was fun playing with some of you guys
