Hmm. The Victor Brass Quartet generally used whomever was playing bass trombone or tuba in the Philadelphia Orchestra, (this according to Herbert L. Clarke). There was a trombone/tuba player named George Frey who played there prior to Philip Donatelli. Perhaps this is him.
