Sousa/Heli Stand?

Post by Toobist »

Hi all,

I'm on the market for a sousaphone/helicon stand. I would like it to be secure and functional but if it can display the horn nicely, that would be great too. I live in a condo and I really love the way my horns look on display in front of the massive windows... Strange? Maybe. But I catch people looking up and smiling at the sight on a sunny day. Plus... My girlfriend is far less likely to consider it 'clutter' if it looks as pretty as possible.

Any suggestions for a stand?

Thanks everyone,
Al

The Yamaha sousaphone 'Stadium' stands were selling on Ebay for $49 a while back. I didn't see any on the auction today but keep your eyes open. They seem to be a heckofa buy for that price. I keep one in the shop just for hanging 'work in progress'.

I have a Hercules stand for my helicon. It works just fine for displaying the instrument.

Can anyone post a pic of a helicon on the Hercules stand?

I'm wondering about the angle on the top arm. I'm going to be using it for a Martin Mammoth Heli and I worry about how it might hold that beast.

Thanks in advance.

The K&M is fine with my 26K, whereas it is hopeless with my 28K because it does not allow for a hand angle where my pinkie can reach the 4th piston.

So for the 28K I use the Hercules stand, which however has a tendency of sagging pretty fast in the main telescope tubing. As I only use it at home, I blocked the sagging by a tension ring of the type used to mount hoses on nozzles.

High center of gravity, up high, three leg spells disaster waiting to happen to me.
I really like that one. And as low as it is, my horn will be MUCH less imposing to my girlfriend's sensibilities...
