Help me find a good BBb horn

Post by caroljantsch »

Hi everyone,

One of my students is a senior in high school. She will probably attend the University of Michigan in the fall and wants to play in some of the non-major ensembles. That said, she wants to buy a horn of her own now. My problem is I can't recommend a good BBb for her because I've never owned one. Can you guys recommend a model or two that is average size, plays really well, and doesn't cost too much?

Thanks in advance,
Carol

I'd agree, it's a solid horn, and pretty versitile, and not super expensive.

Very few people have ever done badly buying a Mirafone 186 BBb--it meets every requirement you asked for this student. Best of all, there is very good value--and a goodly supply--in the used market.

Oh, yeah, the VMI is also great. I played one for six years or so and it was really good. Great, dark sound.

are we sure that king on ebay with the added rotor is the current model? doesn't look quite the same to me. does look interesting though. i like to play with my horn on the chair and i'm not sure if that 5th valve tubing would get in the way...

I have a newer King 2341 and can recommend them. There are many inconsistencies in these horns though from what I've heard so try out a bunch, the best outta that bunch shoudl be a great horn.
