Hi, I posted earlier in the thread about the possibility of having to use a mouthpiece with a Euro shank as opposed to an American shank. You asked a question and I wasn't able to respond until now. The shank is the part that fits into the leadpipe/receiver.(sorry if you already know this stuff) The Euro shank is slightly wider in diameter than the American shank and thus doesn't go in as far (meaning it extends out farther as if you had the "longer mouthpiece" you mentioned) I'm not saying this is the solution but something you might want to try. If you don't have access to a euro shank mouthpiece you could try wrapping the shank of your 24AW with a strip of clear tape. On my horns it usually takes 2 strips to approximate the correct depth. On the one horn I have that needs Euro shank the mouthpiece fits in about about 1-1/8 inches (26 mm) Others on this forum should may be able to give you better measurement but I think these are close. The difference between Euro and American is not very large. The outside diameter of my Euro shank is about 12 mm. Hope this helps...

The mouthpiece I have has a shank long about 4 cm.
When I put it in the lead pipe it seems to fit well, so I don't need tape, the shank is about 2.7 cm inside.
At the end of the mouthpiece, the hole is about 11 mm for the inside, 12 mm from outside.
Is this a european, an american ? This is the one I got with the tuba, named jupiter.
Why do they make differences between us...
Thanks
