Stauss Horn Concerto #1, Opus 11
I remember, in the past, someone saying that, prior to the composition of solo music written for tuba, the Berlin Philharmonic asked Richard Strauss' permission to use the Strauss, Horn Concerto #1, Opus 11, in Eb Major as a required solo for auditioning tuba players and that Richard Strauss gave permission for this. Is this accurate? If so, where is this documented in the great annals of tuba history. Thank you for any help.
