Adding to the stable by stealth?

Post by Peach »

Obviously this is COMPLETELY hypothetical...

Imagine you want to get another tuba (just maybe you've already got another tuba...).
At this point your partner doesn't know that you either want or indeed already have the tuba.
You don't live with the partner at the moment but at some point she will figure out you have another tuba.
The new tuba isn't expensive but you figure the other half wouldn't be quite as pleased as you about the acquisition.

Given the above, what techniques might one employ to stealthily add to the stable?
Buying diamonds is an option but I'm hoping for a cheap option here. Hypothetically of course...

Thanks,
MP

Has said person ACTUALLY COUNTED your tubas and keeps a running total?

In which case, may I suggest that you leant someone a tuba, and are just now getting it back because said person has purchased their own?
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

- BLAH -
It's just a joke really -

Have any of you stealthily snuck a new tuba in under-radar?
If so, how? =)

I did on one previous occasion have a tuba delievered to a band mates house and then stored it in the band hall until the right opportunity to break the news came along.
It was a very cheap impulse buy from EBay.

My main instruments were bought after consultation and a period of saving.
Cant carry a tune but I can carry a tuba.

What about that band of bodyguards you use when catwalking in France, doesn't it work back in the UK?

Oh the joys of inlawlessness.

Be honest about it, but never keep two tubas in the same room. To most people they all look alike.

I think this is great advice above. Also, find places, like closets or corners, to store them where they won't be in the way and under foot. When she's tripping over them or sees them taking up a large space, that's when the "How many of these do you really need?" conversation happens.

My opinion: tell her about it first. You will probably be able to buy it anyway, and you'll prevent all that other nonsense. Happy wife, happy life... that doesn't mean that you can't still buy things that you want.

I tell my wife to be glad that I don't play golf -- I can buy a tuba once for $5,000, and a few things here and there, or I can spend a few hundred per month on golf for the rest of my life. Easy decision. :)

Good luck! :tuba:

A drummer recently told me the correct answer to the question "how many cymbals do you need?" The answer is "Just one more", and it applies equally well to tubas.

I play golf 2 or 3 times a week & own 2 tubas, but I've had as many as 5 at one time.
And yes............I'm happily divorced

Haha. Thanks for the replies!

This woman is great - no need for dishonesty of any sort.
And Klaus, I try to take the band wherever I can just in case. Seems to work!

Best,
