No it's not a joke, my teacher told me about this tuba (YamaYork) and he said it's a good one, but although the price, this instrument has some little problem.

I would do the opposite as long as it was a C2 or early C3 corvette. By the way anyone in the market for a 07 corvette? gggTHE TUBA wrote:I would spend $40K on a tuba before I'd spend $40K on a car.

Having played the "Yamayork" a few times, including the one at ITEC, they do play very easily and play very well in tune for a 6/4 instrument. If money was no object, I would probably buy one. In my current situation? Not a chance.

Guys, duh... used tubas are way cheaper than new ones. Just buy a used one.
But really... how many of us would own the things we do if we had to buy them all brand new? I know what a new Rudolf Meinl costs.

It seems like houses are pretty inexpensive where you livethe elephant wrote: I would buy one if I had the scratch, but cannot justify a horn that costs half the price of my house.
From what I've heard, depending on the customer, the price is negociable with Yamaha. (depending on how much they would like you to play it)
I played one briefly, and was impressed, but luckily I'm a BBb only player

Maybe you should move. The "South" of the USA is really quite nice. And yes, you can buy a liveable home for less than twice the Yamaha.oedipoes wrote:

I, however, am holding out for the handmade Yamaha copy of the Holton-stenciled YBB-103. The YamaYamaHolton.

Good idea, but moving to the US is not really on my wish-list...tbn.al wrote:

- I'm currently living a lot closer to the yamaha facility where the Yamaha 'Custom' instruments are being made. (and closer to all European instrument manufacturers)
- The relative price of a Yamayork (wrt the price of a house) is actually cheaper here
Off topic:
If you really want to know, take a look at this map: http://www.standaard.be/berekenen/huizenprijzen
I'm living in the north-west, in one of the light-yellow areas.
If you click on the map, the prices you get are the mean prices for that area in EUR for (in that order): a house, a villa, a flat, and the price per m² for ground.

"Each instrument is painstakingly constructed by a very small number of highly skilled craftsman..."
...the price figures in the amount paid to the families of the workers for the pain they must endure while making this tuba.
"The instrument has a muscular low register with a very defined core that couples well with the bass trombone* in the orchestral setting..."
...outside of the orchestra setting they barely speak and even avoid eye contact if they happen to pass one another on the street.
* except for Charles Vernon
"The YCB-826S can play so soft it exhibits only a sheen barely audible in the orchestra at times."
Really? I can make that claim no matter what horn I'm playing. Soft. Loud. Extra loud. If they blindfolded you, you'd never know I was there.

Here is another Yamaha CC. You see a lot more of these. Price is probably why.

A YCB826 or 100,000 Klondike bars.
