What is this?

Post by Bacon »

I have a couple images of a tuba Mouthpiece that looks interesting. If you have any information on it please let me know, I would like to know the name and price.

The Monette looks different. Your picture shows one with a little extra doo-hicky at the top of the shank.

I have one, a 98. I pull it out from time to time. I have neither made it my main mouthpiece (and have never performed with it) nor sold it. Had not before noticed Bloke's point that the backbore is nearly cylindrical, and of course he is right, and I know nothing about the effect of the shape of backbores on sound.

Some days I like it quite a lot, but when it comes time to go out in public it always stays home, and if I had bought it new for $410 I would be very unhappy about that.

Some time ago we discussed these heavy mouthpieces. The search function doesn't always work well, so here's the link:

Guess I'm playing the tuba correctly. I've been playing my 94 for 14 years now. I only ever switch it up if I'm playing sousaphone (and I don't want to drop a $400 mouthpiece).
