Does anybody have any experience with this stand?

Hi,
I'm looking for a new tuba stand for my newish king. I'm looking to put my horn down on something stable in the pit while I'm doubling on the bass. Does anybody have any experience with this stand? Does in feel like it will tip?

I use the K&M stands with all my tubas and they work very well. No one will step on you bell and the tuba is more stable than leaning against a chair.

You can also put you tuba down with a mute in it.

I have a K&m stand a Chinese copy and a Hercules display stand of the 3 the Hercules is the most stable and can also double as a playing stand.
The K&m is the most portable and the more stable of the two floor stands.

The ebay one is a different model (14940 vs 14945). I'm not sure what the difference is between them (don't say "5").

I have both this stand and the Chinese one. I completely agree with Bloke that I trust this stand more, but I wouldn't say I necessarily trust it $200 more. Both get the job done reliably, but they both live at home 100% of the time. In a situation where I felt like the tuba was seriously at risk, I'd use the K&M because of the legs.

The difference between the 2 models is one of size adjustment. The 14945 holds larger horns (Wt: 3.5 kg, H: 390/410 mm, Support Width: 380/545 mm. ) than the 14940 (Wt: 2.4 kg, H: 310/ 415 mm, Support Width: 275/455 mm)

I have a few of these K&M. stands in different sizes.

They should not be placed so that one or more of the legs will be kicked back towards the folded position.

They are not too well suited for tubas that have a carrying ring sitting on the bell in a position below the grip of the supporting arms.

I've had a K&M stand for years with no problems, their customer service is great, I needed a replacement ferrule for one of the legs and they were really helpful.

Remarkably strong and stable. The rubber arms really grip the metal horn, though, so it takes some adjusting to get the horn back out of the stand quickly.

The larger K&M stand (unlike the smaller one) has material covering over the arms holding the tuba. I would warn to take great care over prolong use, as my experience is after a while the material can start wearing and the metal underneath work through to scratch the tuba. That happened with mine and the stand to protect my Neptune is actually what has caused it damage

That is why I pull a cotton sock over each pair of arms on this type of stand.

Yes, and if the arms are gripping the tuba too tightly, you will get a very loud squeaking noise putting your tuba in the stand during the ppp section after your fff section. I have, of course, never had this happen to me; but it could be very embarrassing when half the orchestra turns to look at you after the squeak.

Thanks for the answers so far. In regards to Hercules stands, their tuba stands scare me. They have great stands for other instruments, but their tuba stands look like a repairman's dream to me. Maybe its just me...

If you're talking about this stand...

...it is very well constructed. I have one but I don't use it on gigs anymore because:
1. Its just too bulky to carry around with all the other stuff I have to bring.(I usually travel with our drummer and all his stuff.)
2. At the gig, it takes up more space than is usually available to me.
3. Even though it is sturdy and easy on and off, without some sort of strapping device for the 3 supports, I don't trust that someone won't knock my horn out of it when there's a break between sets. I suppose I could devise something but refer to #'s 1 & 2.
Bottom line is it reliably holds my horn in the my practice space.
