Cimbasso Mute
Anyone have good experience with finding a suitable straight mute for an F cimbasso? Bell is slightly larger than the large bass bones such as the Bach 50. Being essential a tubaist, the whole world of a trombone/contrabass trombone is new to me. BTW the cimbasso experience has been an incredible journey, and uses for it are not that hard to find.

Wallace makes a straight mute for Contrabass Trombone which should fit. Likewise Voigt makes both practice and straight mutes for cimbasso/"double bass" trombone. I personally use a baritone practice mute which requires a little extra cork (foam actually) to fit properly but works quite well considering it cost what the shipping was going to be on the Voigt.

Johan Schlipf has made me a Straight/Cup mute that works really well, you might want to contact him, I'm not sure if it's in regular production yet...

I have had excellent success with the Humes & Berg "baritone" mute. It has served me very, very well on multiple instruments for a pittance of cost.
It's too small for any modern Euph, but is a dynamo on Cimbassi.

I think they are designed for the "English" bore baritones.J.c. Sherman wrote:I have had excellent success with the Humes & Berg "baritone" mute. It has served me very, very well on multiple instruments for a pittance of cost.

Re: Cimbasso Mute
I'm using a Denis Wick Baritone Mute and it works great. I had to add another layer to the corks to get the right amount and then shaved down until I got exactly the right response and intonation. Stephen Wick was particularly helpful in getting me the exact right corks and answering questions about the mute.
My opinion for what it's worth...
