Late Father's Conn 15J

Post by hornseller »

Howdy all,

A few years after his passing, I'm only now getting around to selling some of my late father's collection. He was a professional jazz/big band/dixieland musician, and while I was raised under his roof, I am ignorant to the ways of the tuba (but can hold my own on a clarinet/contra-bass/trumpet, etc.)

I'm looking for some information and pricing for a silver Conn 15J, Serial 303577. Information from conflicting sources indicates the horn was manufactured in either the 1930's or 1980's. Imperfections in the finish and minor dents throughout, but nothing major ascetically or functionally.

Anyone willing and able to provide some info (ref. age, price) would be most appreciated. Likewise, anyone interested in purchasing the horn on this forum would be most welcome, as my foremost concern is that it go to a good home. Judging by the name of this forum, I'd say I'm in the right place.

Thanks in advance.

Best,
Chris

schlepporello & KiltieTuba:

Thanks so much for your help dating this. Given the finish, I was inclined to believe it was 80's as well. Much appreciated.

As a follow-up, can anyone assist in pricing this horn? Absent any interest on this forum, I will be posting on eBay this week.

I'll bite.... It seems that a price range between $750 and $1100 is a likely target. $750 is probably on the lower end(if you want to move it faster) $900 is probably realistic for the condition. $1100 if you sell it to someone locally.

Start by putting up an ad here, then try your local craigslist (or other local site)
