Miraphone Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot Bag in Genuine Naugahide

Post by J.c. Sherman »

I just got a lovely gift of a "what the hell is this" ancient Miraphone bag. It's a lined, but unpadded mira-leather bag, big enough to slip over a 190, but without any obvious way to close it. It's damaged (stitching coming loose). Anyone know what the hell this is or how to use it, or have a picture of one in use???

Had one a couple of weeks ago for an old MW 25. The "bag" had a draw string to cinch it around the bell, but, as you stated, is worthless. It keeps the finish from being scratched but can't protect against denting nor be carried in any way except a bear hug.

the elephant wrote:I remember having one of those with my brand new school-issued 186. (This would have been around 1982 or so.) It was described as an "optional slipcover" for inside the case. I threw it away in anticipation of the tragic and ignominious life it would probably have lead at my school.
The summer after my 8th grade year before I went to high school I participated in a
thing called SYMS at the University of NH (http://cola.unh.edu/music/program/syms- ... sic-school) I had no tuba to use as my middle school wouldn't give me a loaner over the summer, neither the high school (but for a souzy to prep for marching band). The college gave me an ancient 186 with a plain leather bag with a drawstring at the top but no handles of any kind, and told to schelp that all around campus . Amazing I managed to not damage the horn!
