Tommy Johnson question

Post by pjv »

Does anyone know if this is Tommy playing on the recordings for Amazing Stories (1985)? This recording of Mummy, Daddy (Danny Elfman) sounds real Miraphone-like and the precision playing reminds me of his talented work.

Sounds like Tommy on his silver 188 to me. Year and composer (Elfman) is another very strong clue.

Yes.

Tommy participated in Amazing Stories recordings from '85-'87. Not to say there weren't others involved along the way, but I can at least confirm Tommy.

Thank you.
The tuba is quite prominent (and often virtuosic) on a lot of the recordings from this show so it makes for a brilliant listening. Knowing that Tommy was the man behind the mouthpiece (or one of them) is certainly a testament to his brilliant talent.
Thanks for letting me (us) know Poomshanka.

Sure thing! Danny Elfman's penned many great tuba parts over the years, including this one (featuring another tuba pilot, Norm Pearson):

Of course, add Jim Self, Doug Tornquist, et al to the list. Just throwing some potential alternates to Tommy out there for reference...
