I have a "ROY BENSON" oval euphonium. (baritonhorn; Kaiserbariton).
a small shank mouthpiece (king 6 1/2 S) goes all the way in. too small.
a Denis wick 3SL TUBA mouthpiece enters there. just barely, but enters.
knowing this, I want to buy a Schike 51D and a SM4. Witch shank size shoul I buy?

How far does the tuba mouthpiece enter the receiver? If it goes in 10 to 15 mm, I'd guess you would need a large shank. If it's just 1 or 2 mm, most likely a European shank. Ideally, you'd want to try one of each shank size in your instrument to see which one fits best.

The best way to verify this is to borrow a bass-shank mouthpiece from a trombonist friend. If it fits, you have your answer.Anterux wrote:for what has been said here, I think this is a Large shank instrument.
The TUBA mouthpieces I have from Denis Wick are all L. they all go in about 11 millimiters.
