What horn is this cloned after?

This is my "Taishan TSTC-2051" CC Tuba. I don't know much about it other than M&M offers it as the "TU-1500".

Can anyone tell me what horn this was cloned after?

BTW, it has a beautiful, compact sound and plays pretty well in tune. It's a blast to play.

It appears to be a copy of the Miraphone Bruckner 291 CC tuba, unfortunately.

Actually, that looks more like a Rudi Meinl 4/4 CC copy to me....

Interesting. It has an 17 1/2" bell and is 4/4 size. So someone in China designed this?

You used the wrong Rudi Meinl pic. I said it looked like the Rudi Meinl 4/4 CC (but with a funky 5th valve tubing), not the 3/4 model you posted.

Anyone have the pic of the 4/4 Rudi?

This is mine. Totally different leadpipe than this clone. Other differences as well.

To me, it looks like a combo of a Rudi, Bruckner, and something else, that I can't quite put my finger on. The secret is probably in that leadpipe curve, I can't remember where I've seen that before. Honestly, my first guess was a CC-ized version of that BBb Hirsbrunner clone, but I haven't dug up photos of that yet.

And why is it unfortunate? Well... let's not get into that. It'll just make us all angry and then the thread will get shut down.

It appears that M&M is currently selling a similar tuba on ebay right now labelled "M&M 10000 Bb/CC Tuba in Silver." The photos are a bit more detailed and may allow for better identification. From the back view, I see a symmetrical top bow and a very different fourth valve wrap than a Bruckner.

Confusing matters a bit, M&M has a different picture for their 10000 model on their website and instead show a similar picture for the 1500 model.

I own an HB-2, and that tuba has SEVERAL obvious differences when you see the horn in person on a day to day basis.

5th rotor is one step. The horn came with an additional slide for two step.

For a Chinese horn, it's as good as they come. I would qualify it as a "step up horn". Great first CC horn for sure. I've had it a year. Guess we'll see if it holds up.

It was supposedly a NAMM sample from Taishan years back that never made the show floor. It had a crushed bell on it's way from China.

Plays well. Again, a more compact sound and intonation is pretty solid. A few quirks here and there as it is a Chinese horn.

Yamaha YCB-661, but with a few changes (like a shorter bell stack, and a narrower tuning slide--possibly to accommodate a part shared with other instruments--and thus a different dogleg). It's the only one with the same valve routing, at least from what is visible from the front.
