Vendors at NABBA
Looks like most of the major makers of brass instruments showed up at NABBA in Fort Wayne this year. I intend to make the rounds and give a report of what I find pleasing. If you're there you'll be able to stop by the Wessex booth and try out the prototype front action, 4-piston, 1-rotary, non compensating EEb that I developed and built for their production. I hope to see some of you there.

Re: Vendors at NABBA
Nice job on the Eb prototype, Sam. That horn was the most innovative/impressive horn there. Good to see you again.

I would very much like to hear more about this new Eb from Wessex. I spoke to Jon about it some time ago, but now that I know it has been played by others, what do y'all think? Sam, what were your influences when building this tuba?

Looking forward to seeing pictures! Sam, maybe you can convince them to front valve a euph too?

Picture of the Wessex prototype EE-flat before the 5th valve linkage was installed. It is the same overall size as the Wessex Solo model EE-flat. It's been my big winter building project.

Re: Vendors at NABBA
The concept was from my idea of an EE-flat that a well known manufacturer could have and should have built years ago. If you know tubas you'll be able to detect that manufacturer from the picture. I have to thank Jonathan for giving me the opportunity to make the concept a reality in brass.LazyBlueTuba wrote:I would very much like to hear more about this new Eb from Wessex. Hey, that looks interesting. Will the lowest bend of the third valve tubing get a spit valve at the same angle as the other two?

Cool horn! It'd be nice if one could request a 2341-valved version too (love the ergo's of that thing!).

Yes, I agree 100%--I think it will not be a case of IF, but WHEN for the F...

The branches and bell flair of this horn are considerably larger than the 621 branches and bell.Curmudgeon wrote:Finally, the YEB-621 that Yamaha should have built.

Re: Vendors at NABBA
You would think it needs one there, however the water collects in the other leg of the 3rd tubing. It's pretty easy and convenient to pull the third slide and dump. The same goes for the 1st and 2nd valve tubing...pull and dump. My YFB-621 has the same characteristic.Tom Holtz wrote:Hey, that looks interesting. Re: Vendors at NABBA
Not as easy as you might think. A direct clone of the YFB is pretty manageable. It wouldn't require my attention, but, because of the size and configuration of the branches, turning this EE-flat into an F presents problems that I wouldn't tackle.Curmudgeon wrote:No brainer, yes?jonesmj wrote:And with JinBao already making a CC 4v YCB-621 clone, could a YFB-621 5v F clone be coming in the future.....Curmudgeon wrote:Finally, the YEB-621 that Yamaha should have built.![]()
