York / King tuba IDs (Baltimore Brass)
Can anyone provide the model #s for the King 3 rotary valve, recording bell and the York(?) fixed recording bell tubas at Baltimore Brass? Any links to detailed information that are handy would also be appreciated.

It appears that the King is a 1290

And they are both probably @ .687 bore and both were probably designed by F. A. Reynolds when he worked first for J. W. York, then later for H. N. White.

Thanks.
The King brochure and BBC indicate a bore of .745-.750"; .750" for the York, according to BBC.
Has anyone played either of these two horns, at BBC or other examples? Any impressions, criticisms etc. would be appreciated. I'm looking for a large bore BBb horn with a recording bell (doesn't have to be detachable).

My section leader in the West Point band had one of the rotary Kings with three valves before I got there and he thought it was the best horn he'd ever played. I own a four valve model that makes a great sound and not too much slide pilling. Ed

Well, both York and King did make .750 bore horns. They are better known for the smaller bore.

Not in this case. The King 1290 series used 3/4" bore tubing, and are large instruments (they are called Monsters for a reason). The 3-valve that BB has is particularly sweet--I know its former owner.

I don’t see the York behind the given link (fixed bell front).

The BBC link?
I can see the picture now, but there are times when BBC pictures don't pop up. Sometimes I can click on a picture for a much larger version, but not now.

Found it. I was cheated by the York reference, which does not occur in the text.

Is this a detached bell that has been soldered to the body?

I am still puzzled by the matte ring around the top end of the stack.

How was the valve action? Did you check out the piston plating? Are there any major dents on the backside? Do you think the horn needs any work to be a daily player or is good to go as is? Thanks.
