Slide stoppers?

Greetings,

A friend of mine had some slide stoppers on his horn that consisted of a little knob on a brace foot, you soldered one to the slide and one to the tube and there was a string between the knobs to prevent the slide from falling out/being pulled out too far. He had a tech install them, but didn't know where the tech got them. Anyone have any idea what I'm describing or where I can get some? Thanks!

I can install them myself, I just need the parts themselves. The one my friend had had a piece of leather at the end of the string with a hole and a slot to slide over the knob on the slide/tube.

Ah, I see. Well, I am not familiar with ones with a leather strap... I have only had ones on my horns that are similar to the ones on trumpets--a metal bar with a stopper that would prevent the slide from coming out all of the way.

You may have noticed the main slide stops on my Marzans. You can buy stop kits like are used on Strad trumpets but I make mine out of junk saxophone posts and #4 threaded rod.

There is no need to pull this slide to dump water as there is a waterkey just above the rotor cluster.

On my Miraphone 1291 5V... I use a piece of parachute cord that's long enough to allow the slide to be completely removed and the cord is looped back over the upper crook so the slide doesn't fall out when the horn is on the bell.

A company called IGUS makes a line of ball connectors that can easily be snapped apart. I've used these on main slide 'kickers' so the slide can still be easily removed. http://www.igus.com/wpck/3748/igubal_Ge ... #Section_4

Ha! Thanks for the idea bloke....

I've seen the post stoppers before, but I liked the string/leather one because it could be removed quickly and easily. The slides I would attach it to (my first and maybe second valve slide) still need to be pulled out to empty the water from time to time and I'd rather not have to deal with unscrewing the little nut from the bottom of the post each time I have to do that.

It's sounding like something I might have to have made... I asked my friend to send me a picture of his set-up so everyone can see what I'm talking about.

Yes! (TheHatTuba also PM'ed me an old for sale thread with a horn that had those same stoppers on it )My friend also sent me a picture late last night, but that's it!

I had forgotten that it was a lyre holder piece on the tube and the knob thing I was thinking of is the part on the slide. I might actually have parts from my project baritone that would work. Does anyone know if the string/leather strap can be purchased from Alan Baer? Or should I just make my own?

Curmudgeon, do you have any experience with this? Probably not. Have you ordered anything from Buffet or are you just espousing what you may have heard? If they are easier enough to make, do you have a parts list for me? Are you going to cut my slides also and warranty your work? If so then I'll order from you.

Curmudgeon states At one point, ready-made sets were easily ordered from B&S/MW. Not so much anymore with Buffet.

They're easy enough to make, just takes an extra bit of time.

You clearly do not know who the Curmudgeon is or what he does or you (probably) would not have bothered to post that. Oh, and I'm sure he'd be happy to do the work for you after your basically accused him of being full of it.

I think I'm just going to steal the lyre holder and the little "nub" on the 2nd valve slide (there are two more on the first valve slide as well) off my York project baritone and use those to make a stopper system.
