Lots of question...
1) which valve is it?
2) what's the brand?
3) what's the model?
4) do you also see blackish streaks on the piston?
5) is the problem worse when the horn is cold? ... or warmed up?
There are quite a few things that can cause a piston to be 'sticky' that run the gamut from just dirt or buffing compound left in the horn after manufacturing up to and including distorted piston ports due to stress on the valve section.
Also... IF it's a factory demo it's probably NOT flawless. In fact... there's a good chance it's been sent back to the factory/store/seller for the same problem.
do valves have a break in period?

Those detachable mouthpipes are often installed under tension.
Get some really good repair-guy to relieve the tension, lap the piston in its casing, and then super-duper clean everything.
This is a common problem.... STRAIGHT from the factory!

Private seller or a store?nworbekim wrote:i've been wanting to visit norm at brassworks. how costly is that job? i should be able to get the seller to agree to it since it will make me decide to keep the horn. he won't lose a sale.

I think you should call the store where you bought/are buying the horn and discuss the options. What Joe and I have offered is just one of the possible problems. Might be an easy fix but might not. Only The Shadow knows!nworbekim wrote:store
