Vaughan Williams "Dona Nobis Pacem"

Post by Steve Marcus »

Please describe the tuba part for this orchestral/choral composition.

Contrabass or bass tuba?

Thanks!

I don't remember the part in detail, but I remember it being a very good 'blow'. I used a Miraphone 188 on it - seemed to be a good match. Of course, some of what's appropriate depends on the conductor. Some choral conductors don't want to hear anything but their precious choirs. Orchestral conductors tend to look at the bigger picture. You should have some fun with it.

I played it a few years ago on a CC. It is a nice piece with a few good tuba parts. Not very challenging technically but some loud low stuff.

Thanks, Barry and Luke.

I played the first of two rehearsals of the piece last evening. You're right, it's very gratifying with a big CC.

I recently played double bass on this (small orchestra).

Great piece - any tuba would have been appreciated on this particular performance.
