CLP on slides?

This question was posed to me recently and I didn't have a good answer.

Is there any reason why using CLP or similar as your ONLY lubricant would be a BAD idea on slides?

My gut instinct says that it is akin to using WD-40 as a lubricant.. it might technically 'work' but it's not what that product is designed to do best.

I know a guy that has used CLP exclusively on his trumpet slides for years with no perceived ill effects. He's happy. Any reason why it's a terrible idea?

Only downside I can see is that it's not designed to provide a seal. Unlike tuning slide oil or grease, it mostly evaporates, leaving a protective film with good lubricity.
