B&S 56AFT

Post by EMC »

Has anyone played this model? I know it was developed with Allessandro Fossi but that's all I know and I can't find any dealers who I are offering it, it seems like a really interesting set up, 4+3, 1 of them being a slide trigger, from the recordings I've heard the low register sounds big and open including the low C, but I'd like to hear from anyone who has some first hand experience with the horn. Thanks :tuba:

Probably a special order instrument... Did a dealer actually say "no," or is it just not on anyone's Web site?

I didn't ask any dealers personally, I just didn't see it on any websites, not even the German websites.

Apparently it was developed in 2013? So yeah maybe it's a special order still and not widely available.

Especially with these "artist models," I would expect that they make very few, and only by special order. Otherwise, it's not special, and not as showy for the soloist.

While I've never played on a production model of this horn, I did get the very fortunate opportunity to try Alessandro's personal model at ITEC last year. I played on it for about 20-30 seconds and had to give it back to him because I was worried I was going to buy one that day. It's that good of a tuba, in my opinion. Very easy to play in all registers, very colorful sound, and very nimble. One of the very few horns that have "wowed" me on a first play test.

I'm definitely interested, but I seriously doubt I have the cash at the moment, I assume they are about 12k?

That price include VAT, which only needs to be paid inside within the Euro zone (or something like that... either way, if you're American, you don't pay VAT).

Price + shipping is 8,811 euro, which to day is $9,654.83. Not sure what kind of duty/fees you need to pay here in the US before receiving delivery, but it seems like you should come out far under $12,000.

Or just buy from the guy who has two in his office. Whoever or wherever that is :!: :?:

According to Alessandro Fossi, his F Tuba is now available in the US.

I am heading there Saturday morning to go test their different F and CC tubas, and I am really excited to get to try this model.

I got a chance to play the 56AFT at Just for Brass today. Great horn by far my favorite there.
