Looks like it's in decent shape, and the price is quite reasonable. I'd be waiting there when the store opened.

Is this actually half-Conn, half-Martin?

It does look a bit like a 20J, but the valve circuits and bell flare are different:

My opinion...

Assuming everything is in good condition and works well, it's worth $1,000 or a little more. $900 seems like a good price... Not a bargain, not too high, but an appropriate price. I don't think physical location should have all that much to do with price. It's worth what its worth, and remember, in most of the country things tend to be far apart. This is still "near," whether its convenient or not (yeah, probably a full day there and back w/traffic).

This Martin looks to be in really good shape dent wise. It also looks like it has the two bits that complete the leadpipe which is also good. The wear in the plating would indicate to me that it is well used, and being around 80 years old the valves are probably very worn. If you are seriously interested you could probably get the store to take a couple pictures of the valves. If they're all silver you're in. If not you could use sewing machine oil on them to make them seal(it will make them more sluggish) or have a valve job done.I don't know the going rate for a three valve but it ain't cheap! Kanstul also makes a raincatcher for them that some who play Martins say is excellent. I have one with the bell front and a Kanstul raincatcher that I'm still at the sewing machine oil stage with and I love the way it sounds and blows. And I used it on the Disneyworld Candlelight Processional for the whole run(six nights a week) with no "it only has three valves" or "the bell faces the wrong way" flak. Mostly, " Wow, the horn sounds great". Your mileage may vary but I just thought I'd put it out there. Good luck to all you potential buyers. Ed
