Breathing measuring device over 6L

Post by zangerzzz »

I'm presently using a 6L breathing bag. I've maxed it out and would like to find something that measures above 6L for a greater challenge.
Does anyone have any experience with or would recommend a device greater than 6L?

Been looking for something for years with no luck. Remember, these are medical products and there are few sick people with over 6 liters. The best I have heard of was a breathing bag for a horse - 30 liters! If you find something, let me know.

I ran into this problem and found something that works for me. Please give it try before replying.

1. Buy a 5 liter box of wine...whatever you prefer to use in cooking (or drinking).
2. Open the box to reveal an air-tight pouch full of wine. Empty the wine however you wish. WASH with hot water a few times.
3. Get a knife and cut the spout off right where it attached to the bag. Leave the larger outer black lip (see pictures).
4. Find a plastic tube (Lowes, Home Depot, etc...) that fits the opening of the wine spout. Cut a length about 8 inches in length.
5. On half of the tube, randomly cut small holes into the tube. This allows for air to enter the tube from multiple angles and will not cause the bag to be sucked towards the end of the plastic tube. Do this for probably 4-5 inches.
6. Insert the cut end INTO the bag through the black opening (see pictures). This is the hardest part.
7. Insert your breathing tube de jour into the end. I use a slightly smaller tube than most people, and it fits perfectly.

A few things to note about this set-up...
1. I cut a VERY small hole into the CORNER of the bag. This allows me to empty any condensation easily. I usually hold the VERY small hole closed when using the bag.
2. There is no resistance in the bag as it expands. Towards the end of the exhalation with a typical breathing bag the material is stretching, and therefore the bag actually aids in the inhalation because it naturally collapses and forces air into the lungs. The wine bag (or Breathing Bag 3000 as it has become known) does not have this natural retraction, so it forces you to actually move the air back into your lungs.

I do not claim to know why a 5 liter bag of wine has move volume than a 6 liter breathing bag...if someone knows a real scientific answer, please feel free to share.

The wine cask idea works - I've done the same. I haven't needed anything larger than 4 litres for years though.

GOOD NEWS larger than 5 litre casks are available so I can make a special offer. Forward me the cost of a cask, I'll empty it then forward a complete breathing exercise bag to you via air mail at no further cost!!

How is that for a deal??
