Mouthpiece recommendations for Rudy Meinl 3/4

Post by adrian_g95 »

I just bought a Rudy 3/4CC and I would like to ask for some suggestions for a mouthpiece that fits well with the horn. I asked my instructor and he recommended a Bach 18. Does anyone else have a recommendation based on experience?? Let me know

My goal is to really bring out the color of the horn and make it sound large

I have experienced a variety of mouthpieces that work well on that horn.

I have found the best luck with a PT50, or a Laskey 30H***. (Admittedly both very different mouthpieces)

I thought the Laskey was more colorful, and the PT50 produced a bigger sound.

The Rudys are great tubas, congrats on your purchase!

I play a Laskey 28G with mine. It really brings the bloom and colour out of the Rudy, and livens up the articulations.

I have used a Rudolf Meinl RM1 in the past, which does give the impression of a much larger horn. Certainly bigger and thicker sound, but a bit less versatile for the everyday freelancing that I do.
