Short of pro recording equipment, is there a device out there that I could use to record all the tracks of duets and tuba-euph quartets? I want to use this as a practice tool only, so while the result doesn't have to be commercial quality, it needs to be at least decent. In addition to the four tracks for 4tet parts, one is needed for a metronome.
I guess I'm looking for the equivalent of a Consumer Reports Best Buy, that is the best value for the money but not necessarily the best in class. Our youngest is about to start engineering school, so I would like to keep the cost in the hundreds of dollars rather than in the thousands.
Thanks!

Self-recording duets & quartets
It is impossible to make things foolproof because fools are so ingenious.

I own/use one of these and really like it:

and it has a pretty good built in mic, nothing to hook up. Just turn it on and start recording. The Smartmedia cards only hold half an hour of recordings, but buy several and dump them into your Mac (sorry P.C.) and start again.

Michael,
I recently purchased a Fostem MR-8 it is a digital 8-track that is really really nice. And very affordable as far as recording equipment goes. It "may" be more than you need "right" now, but it would also open up a LOT of possibilities to you should you decide to experiement with all of the functions. Just a thought FWIW
good luck
