Alan Baer Ursus event recap
In case you are following Alan's event that took place at the Buffet Group New York showroom last Saturday, it was a great event, well attended, and Alan gave a mini recital to show off the new Meinl Weston 3225 Ursus CC tuba. Afterwards, there was ample time to discuss the new horn, Alan's musical approach, and playtest the two 3225's that Buffet Group had on hand, besides Alan's horn. Alan also had a discussion about the receiver bits that come with the Ursus (and the 6450) and the importance of using the correct one to match your mouthpiece taper, an important overlooked topic. As of yesterday, Morris Kainuma bought the first horn available in the US and the other is at Dillons but probably not for long! For more information about the Ursus contact Buffet Group USA.

Very cool!
Question -- the Meinl-Weston 4/4 CC space seems crowded -- the 2145, 3450, and now the 3225. How different/similar are these tubas?

Yes, that's a good point. Just for scale, the Ursus has the largest bell of the three at 17.7", .748-.787, .846 on the 5th rotor, 35.8" height. string pull, stops, tuning bits
2145: 16.5" bell, .748-.747, .807" 36.6" height
3450: 17.3" bell, .748-.787, .807" 35.8"

Does the receiver bit choice only apply to the Ursus and 6450? Other MW horns as well?

Thanks for the details about the models.
Now... when can Al get a new photo for the promo materials? To say he's much leaner than he used to be would be an understatement!

The tuning bits are available as a kit, but you must determine whether you need F or CC.
