Re: Update Update
Went to see the Chicago Symphony Orchestra this past week. As a person who does not usually go to hear symphony orchestras, I was amazed how much music I got for the money! I lost count of how many highly qualified musicians played that night and we even got a lecture before hand introducing the music that was going to be played.
(NOT intending to ignite any discussion about funding and symphony orchestras)

Re: Update Update
I have to admit -- I find baseball VERY boring.
I'm excited that the Mets are in the World Series, and I really want to know what happens. But I'm just as happy to wake up and find out the result than to sit through the whole game. Honestly, it's been what, 4 or 5 days since the last game? I'm kind of over it, I forgot all about it until a few minutes ago.
The only downside is that my wife loves baseball -- she wants to watch every minute of it. She'll see that I get bored of the game and want to turn the channel or do something else, and she asks "Is it *really* a problem to watch a baseball game with your wife?" She's got a point...

Re: Update Update
I have some very well traveled German friends who know much more about the US than I do. However... they had never been to an American baseball game. They were here about five years ago and I took them to a game of the local minor league team. They were appalled! They pretty much understood what the game was about but they thought it was totally disrespectful to the players that the spectators were milling around and drinking beer instead of paying strict attention to the game. That plus the fact that the game moved so slowly. We left after two innings!bort wrote:I have to admit -- I find baseball VERY boring....

It is Halloween tonight and Daylight Saving Time ends also. Who knows what can happen in that extra hour on such a night?

I sure hope we catch whoever made the movie that inspired Friday's attacks in France.

From Facebook:
Quick: what do Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and the UAE have in common?
If you said they are not accepting refugees from Syria you'd be right.

I wasn't aware refugees were even going there.
After all, they can't escape the Global Warming, which obviously, in addition to poorly produced movies and bad cartoons, inspires terrorism, leading to migration and human tragedy.

Re: Update Update
Recent quote from the German Chancellor - Germany maybe the only country left who will take them. I guess she didn't arrive at those values by consulting with the rulers of Saudia Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain etc. I'm not sure which way I'd go if it were my call, but I don't think it's necessarily idiotic to take risks for the sake of humanity.Angela Merkel wrote: we live from compassion, love of one's neighbors, and joy in community. We believe in everyone's individual right to seek happiness… in respect for others and in tolerance.
...
answer the terrorists by living our values confidently, and strengthening them in the whole of Europe - now more than ever.

Why? Don't their studies have enough books in them now that they don't call them "libraries" nowadays?
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?
