Looking for info on B&S GR41 CC tubas

Post by WCTubaGuy »

I have recently run across a B&S GR41 and really enjoyed playing the instrument. I however have heard very little about these horns so I wanted to do a little research before possibly buying one. Any information on the horn would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We have two of these at work. I am not fond of these horns. The pitch isn't very good on them. They are not the most nimble tuba I've ever played either. What really sucks is that you can't move the 4th or 5th valve while playing. If the horn played better in tune maybe this wouldn't be such an issue but when I have to play them I'm all over the slides on those. There are much better horns to be had in my opinion. If you are dead set on buying one check it with a tuner and decide if you are willing to live with that.

I have confirmed that this is not the same as a PT606P. This is a true 5/4 horn whereas the 606P is a larger 4/4. Also I will be sure to take a tuner to the horn and check out what you are talking about bububassboner. I admittedly did not play with a tuner when I was originally playing the horn so that could be a game changer. Thank you. Any other information would still be appreciated.

I'm not sure if it's the one you're talking about, but Dillon's has a GR41 listed on their Website. If you're serious, give Matt Walters a call and see what he says.

The one at Dillon's is the horn I was speaking of. I was made aware of the horn by Matt the last time I was down there. I loved the sound I produced on the horn and found it very easy to play. I just wanted a little more information before I went through the process of selling my tuba and buying another horn.

Cool... well honestly, I think you might already have your answer then. :)

I think if it does what you want it to do, and you brought your tuner with you, then you should be good to go.
