Nobody has spoken about the Meinl Weston rotary Eb which BG mentioned in the original post. Although not common I think in the US these are fine tubas. The ergonomics place the paddles pretty high and I seem to recall Jonathan Hodgetts' example which had a lousy high E. I've played others that had no bad notes as far as I remember...

The MW 2040/5 Eb I had was great tuba, except for the ergonomics and that very difficult high E. I came to dread seeing that E in music, as I was as it did not want to sound with any fingering. I remember a couple of times playing solos on CC as they included that E, and I could therefore not risk on Eb tuba.

You will want to try the Wilson rotor Eb tubas. I had the same issues with the piston version that you had but the two rotor versions are better. One is a normal looking set up and one has the valves turned on their side. That tuba was one of the top five best tubas I have ever played. They are super rare and you will need to request a fifth valve if you order new but if I had to have Eb and rotor that would be the way to go.
