Depending on the mood of the folks in customs, you can be assessed a customs duty by the US. I don't recall the exact rate, but I think it's in the vicinity of 2 percent if the value of the instrument exceeds a certain amount.

I've never had it happen to me, but I've been warned about it.

I recently shipped a tuba to Japan and when I went to fed ex to have it shipped they asked if I was paying the extra fees or the recieving party. So, chances are that you will have to pay something. The time should be about 7 business days or less.

Hmmm... I wonder if you are buying from the same person I sold my horn to. I noticed that he had a tuba for sale right after he bought mine.
